Three-Eyed Raven

Winter is coming. I mean, it’ll be a while, but it’s still looming in the distance… just like the threat of White Walkers.

Sorry, sorry, I got real life and the fictional universe of Game of Thrones confused again. But it’s an honest mistake, especially when I’m imbibing Brewery Ommegang’s Three-Eyed Raven Dark Saison – the fifth of the brewery’s GoT-themed releases.

When you think of saisons, a dark yeasty concoction like this does not spring to mind, but Ommegang have done an admirable job of combining the lightly funky, peppery flavors of a saison with the thick malt backbone of a dark ale.

While this season has definitely taken a new direction – since the show has gone beyond where the books currently are – GoT still stands as one of the best-acted and best-produced shows on television.

Who do you think will sit on the iron throne? After a few of these interesting beers (7.2 % ABV), I’ll be sitting too. Just maybe not on the iron throne.
