I stopped by the grocery store on the way home the other night for a few odds and ends, and ended up leaving with dinner and a beer to accompany my chosen meal for the evening. As it happens, there is a fresh Sushi bar in the store, enabling me to grab a few rolls at will. Tonight we had Spicy Tuna and Dragon Rolls. Hands down, sushi is my wife's and my favorite, especially the Dragon roll with eel and avocado.  The day was in the upper 70's making it perfect for a Hefe, so out of the cooler I pulled Magic Hat Circus Boy. Without a doubt it is one of my favorite Hefeweizens.  This beer was perfect with our Sushi dinner.  It was absolutely delectable and perfect for such a warm evening.

Circus Boy is a wonderful American rendition of a Hefeweizen, with its abundant citrus aroma which flows straight to the palate. This Hefe has a bit more of a mouthfeel than others and is also low on the hops scale. A gorgeous, fluffy white head builds in the vase, atop a slightly cloudy, gold base. It is so inviting and absolutely perfect on a warm day.  The hints of citrus are especially refreshing to the palate with every sip, which linked perfectly to the Sushi. The light, sweet flavors of the fish on the palate blended delightfully with the light, sweet qualities of the beer. The prominent citrus notes of the beer meld well with the spice and vinegar used to prepare the fish. Sushi tends to be a light dish but with heavy, palate laden flavors. A good Hefeweizen cuts those mouth coating flavors, while at the same time complimenting them.Lep

Those of you who do not enjoy Sushi, you are missing out! Those that do, grab some Circus Boy to accompany that next Sushi meal you enjoy. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
