Brauerei Göller Braumeister Felix Göller Talks Göller Dunkel

We spoke with Brauerei Göller Braumeister Felix Göller about Göller Dunkel.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
My father Franz-Josef Göller pioneered this recipe.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
Its dark but transparent color as well as the trademark mild/roasty flavors.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
Dunkel means that this is a dark beer. Dunkel translated into English is "dark."

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
To be honest, I’d prefer a more smooth beer on a desert island like a helles or a kellerbier.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
The roasty, sweet flavors entice you into taking another sip.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
The beer was originally brewed for the 650-year anniversary of Zeil am Main in 1978. Afterwards it became very popular as Jahrhundert-Bier in the region around Zeil am Main.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
The traditional Franconian dish Schäuferla (pork shoulder) goes perfectly! In our brewery-restaurant we serve Schäuferla with a sauce that is cooked with Göller Dunkel as an ingredient.
