Right Brain Brewery Brewmaster Russell Springsteen Talks Pig Porter

Right Brain Brewery Brewmaster Russell Springsteen Talks Pig Porter

We spoke with Right Brain Brewery Brewmaster Russell Springsteen about Pig Porter.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I did, at a dinner party that featured pig. I sat across from the buyer, and the only part of pig that was not used was head (minus the brain) and the bones. We wanted to use 100 percent of the pig. So we smoked the head and bones, and it was as easy as that.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite aspect of the beer is the smoked flavor from the bones. No smoked malt was used, making this a singularly unique smoked beer.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The name come from the pig, as there are real pig parts in this beer.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
I would not take this on a desert island, but an arctic one for sure.  If I were stranded on an iceberg, this would be the perfect treat.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Porter, rich, smokey, made with real pig parts.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Pairs beautifully with pork tenderloin!
