Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. Wins Two Awards at US Open Beer Championship

Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. in Hawley, Pennsylvania has announced that it won two medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championships for its Underwater Church barrel-aged barleywine and its flagship Hawley Hefeweizen. Full details are below.

July 11, 2022 - Hawley, Pennsylvania - Wallenpaupack Brewing Company, the award-winning craft brewery and brewpub located adjacent to Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos region of Pennsylvania, today announced it has earned two awards at the prestigious 2022 US Open Beer Championship.

This annual beer competition recognizes excellence in beer in 150 categories and is considered one of the top 3 beer competitions in the USA.  This year, the competition attracted a record-setting 9,000 beer submissions from breweries and home brewers who medaled at the 2021 Homebrew Association’s national competition. 

Wallenpaupack Brewing Company received two awards, including:

• Gold medal in the blended barrel-aged beer category for ‘Underwater Church’ - a Barleywine that was aged in 3 different barrels (Bourbon, Rum & Moscatel) for over two years, then blended together.  This beer was first submitted to the US Open Beer Championships, with plans for a release later this summer / early fall at the brewery.
• Silver medal in the German Hefeweizen category for “Hawley Hefeweizen” – one of the brewery’s flagship beers which is available year-round.  This is the second year in a row that Hawley Hefeweizen was recognized by the US Open Beer Competition; this particular beer has become the brewery’s most awarded beer since opening in 2017.
