Good People Brewing Rolls Out Buffalo Rider Shandy

Good People Brewing Co. in Alabama has announced a new collaboration beer with Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale. The beer is a blend of Buffalo Rock's effervescent ginger ale and an apricot wheat beer by Good People.

The beer will be available on draft year-round wherever Good People is available.

Here's the release from the brewery:

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – On Friday, June 3, Good People Brewing Co., the oldest and largest brewery in the state of Alabama, and Buffalo Rock Company, an innovator and premier provider of beverages since 1901, will begin selling Buffalo Rider, a shandy using Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale. This unique beverage will debut at Magic City Brewfest and the Good People taproom this weekend.

“We’re extremely excited to partner with Buffalo Rock on this project,” said Michael Sellers, who cofounded Good People in 2008 with his friend Jason Malone. “This traditionally Southern ginger ale has such a unique and interesting flavor that we thought it would pair nicely with one of our lower alcohol beers.”

Traditionally, a shandy is a low-alcohol beer mixed with a non-alcoholic beverage, like a citrus juice or carbonated beverage. A “shandygaff,” however, has been described as a beer mixed with ginger ale. Buffalo Rider will feature an Apricot Wheat base beer brewed by Good People that has been mixed with Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale. The sweetness of the beer will complement the spicy, sinus-tingling taste of the ginger ale. Buffalo Rider shandy will be a go-to beer that people can enjoy all year long.

“When Good People approached us about the shandy, we knew it would be a perfect match for Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale because of their quality brews and our shared heritage as Southern brands,” said David Miller, executive general manager of customer strategy, marketing and brand development at Buffalo Rock Company. “Generations of Southerners have loved the taste of Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale, by itself and as a mixer. Now people can enjoy it in a beer, too.”

Buffalo Rider shandy will be available at the Good People Brewing tent at Magic City Brewfest at Sloss Furnaces, as well as in the Good People taproom, starting on Friday, June 3. The beer will be distributed throughout the brewery’s footprint—Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. For the time being, Buffalo Rider shandy will be available only on draft, or to-go in growlers and crowlers.

Good People and Buffalo Rock will run promotions and samplings throughout their distribution footprints in the weeks to come.
