Best Guinness Beef Stew Recipe

Irish Beef and Guinness Stew is a traditional dish from Ireland renowned for its flavorful, hearty ingredients and soft, slow-cooked meat. Chunks of beef, typically chuck or brisket, are combined with vegetables like onions, carrots, and potatoes in a stew. The addition of Guinness stout, a dark Irish beer that gives this stew a distinct flavor depth, is what makes it unique.

As the beef simmers, the maltiness and subtle bitterness of the beer combine to create a thick, robust sauce. During the winter months, Irish beef and Guinness stew is frequently served as a hearty, comforting supper. This dish, which highlights Irish flavors, is not only a mainstay of Irish cooking but is also a favorite for St. Patrick's Day celebrations worldwide.

Best Way to Cook Guinness Irish Stew

The best way to cook Guinness Irish Stew is using the sous vide technique. Sous vide cooking allows you to maintain a precise and constant temperature throughout the cooking process. This ensures that the beef and vegetables are cooked evenly and retain their moisture, resulting in tender, succulent meat, and perfectly cooked vegetables.

By vacuum-sealing the ingredients in a bag, flavors are sealed in and intensified during the cooking process. The slow, low-temperature cooking allows the flavors of the Guinness stout, beef broth, and aromatics to meld together, creating a rich and complex taste profile.

Once the ingredients are prepared and sealed in the bag, sous vide cooking requires minimal hands-on attention. You can simply set the temperature and timer on your sous vide machine and let it do the work, freeing you up to attend to other tasks or relax while your stew cooks to perfection.

How to Make Guinness Beef Stew Sous Vide

Step 1: Fill the tank with enough water to completely submerge the ingredients and fill it to the minimum level. Fit the sous vide machine onto the tank securely. The world's first sous vide machine that does everything in one package is the Typhur Sous Vide Station.

Step 2: Compared to competitors who ask customers to buy extra components, the best sous vide machine has all the necessary parts to commence sous vide cooking straight out of the box. Adjust the water bath's temperature to 165.2 °F. Please proceed to prepare the beef while the water bath reaches the desired cooking temperature. Cube the beef, measuring 1 to 1.5 inches, and reserve.

Step 3: Add salt and pepper to the beef and place it in a pan over medium heat. When hot, pour in the oil. The beef should be carefully added to the pan once the oil is hot. Sear every side for about 30 seconds, or until a gorgeous brown color covers every surface.  Turn the pot's heat to medium.

Step 4: Once the alcohol has evaporated, pour in the Guinness and stir in the beef stock. Increase the heat so that the liquid condenses to two-thirds of its original volume. Verify that the meat is completely sealed and that all extra air has been taken out of the bag using the vacuum sealer.  Cook for a full day at 165.2°F.

Step 5: After the beef is cooked through, take it out of the water bath with care. Take the steak out of the bag. Once the liquid has been strained through the kitchen mesh, pour it from the vacuum bag into a bowl. Once the sauce has been filtered, add it to the pot and gradually heat it over medium heat until it thickens. Put some salt and black pepper on it. Add the beef at the end and let it reheat. Transfer the steak to a platter, pour over the sauce, and accompany it with your preferred side dishes.

Instant Pot Method

Set Instant Pot to sauté mode and heat olive oil. Sauté onions and garlic until softened. Add cubed beef and brown on all sides. Stir in carrots, potatoes, beef broth, Guinness stout, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Close the lid and set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 35 minutes. Allow for a natural release, then serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Oven Method

Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C). In a Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté onions and garlic. Add cubed beef and brown on all sides. Stir in carrots, potatoes, beef broth, Guinness stout, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Cover and transfer to the preheated oven. Cook for 2-3 hours until beef is tender. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
