Wild Heaven Beer in Decatur, Georgia has announced the release of a fascinating beer: a smoked tomato saison called, fittingly, Killer Tomato. Full details on this release are below.

The smoked tomato saison you never knew you needed is back to attack...your tastebuds! But really, what a concept for the dog days of summer, and it just so happens to work. The brew team smoked 200 lbs of overripe organic grape 'maters from Watsonia Farms on our Big Green Egg and it just complements the earthy fruitiness of a classic saison backbone so well.

Our Brewmaster and co-founder Eric Johnson is first and foremost a gardener at heart. A horticultural master. Here he blends that most food-friendly of beer styles, the Belgian-French saison and, well, we'll let him tell it: "I use either grape or cherry tomatoes. In the past I have blanched and peeled larger heirloom varieties but have found that the small ones have way more flavor as well as more surface area to absorb smoke. I like ‘Sweet Million’ a lot. I used a blend of apple, cherry, and pecan wood to smoke it. 30 minutes per batch at 160 degrees. The tomatoes were juiced and added to the fermented beer.

Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Maryland has announced the return of its famed triple IPA, once simply called Double Dog, now called Double Dog 18. Full details on this 18% ABV beer are below.

At a whopping 18% ABV, Double Dog 18 is Flying Dog’s highest-octane brew. Citrus and resinous hop notes dominate the aroma and flavor profile which ends with a touch of alcohol sweetness and a dry finish.

Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. in Hawley, Pennsylvania has announced that it won two medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championships for its Underwater Church barrel-aged barleywine and its flagship Hawley Hefeweizen. Full details are below.

July 11, 2022 - Hawley, Pennsylvania - Wallenpaupack Brewing Company, the award-winning craft brewery and brewpub located adjacent to Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos region of Pennsylvania, today announced it has earned two awards at the prestigious 2022 US Open Beer Championship.

This annual beer competition recognizes excellence in beer in 150 categories and is considered one of the top 3 beer competitions in the USA.  This year, the competition attracted a record-setting 9,000 beer submissions from breweries and home brewers who medaled at the 2021 Homebrew Association’s national competition.

July always starts off with a bang…pun intended…but it also starts our planning for back half of the year. Hard to think about dark beers in 90 degree weather but such is the lament of the craft brewer. 

However, we would not depart summer without offering up a couple absolute bangers!

Our new Quick Sour will hit shelves first part of July! Liquid Light Syndrome Quick Sour with Carrot and Lime. A delicious combo of fresh, sweet and sour. Drawing on inspiration from 60’s and 70’s mind expanding light shows, we worked with Alex at Liquid Designs to capture the flavor expansions of sours. Dare we say “a full spectrum synesthesia”.
