HopBack Amber Ale

Troegs Brewing Company hails from Hershey, Pennsylvania, the land of milk chocolate. It’s also home to something far sweeter, but in order to reach it we’re going to have to turn back the clock.

Thankfully, we can do just that with HopBack Amber Ale.  So… Let’s hop back to March 2, 1962, a dank nugget in the hop farm of sports history.

The New York Knicks traveled to Hersheypark Arena to face the then-Philadelphia Warriors. Among their ranks was Wilt Chamberlain, a man synonymous with the phrase “hardwood conquest”.

Stone Brewing to Release Ruination 2.0 Double IPA

Stone Brewing Co. has released its new Ruination 2.0 Double IPA, an updated version of the retired original Ruination IPA. Ruination was renowned for its mouth-puckering bitterness and this rendition of the brew features more hop varietals -- Citra, Simcoe and Azacca -- and even more bitterness than its predecessor.

Here is the release from Stone:

Muffin Top Breweries

When Jay Goodwin left The Bruery to open The Rare Barrel, an all-sour beer brewery in Berkeley, California, one of his co-workers, Carl Katz, joked that he was opening a “muffin top brewery.” This reference to the 155th episode of Seinfeld in which Elaine helps open a bakery that only serves muffin tops was an analogy for the specialized nature of Goodwin’s new brewery.

Sixpoint – The Crisp Pilz

Spring is a wonderful season. Strands of delicate birdsong flutter through the air, flowers blossom and beer seasonals abound with increasing frequency.

Sadly for me spring also means the height of my savage seasonal allergies. As soon as the trees get a little frisky and start blasting those microscopic yellow particles into the atmosphere, I turn into a fizzing tizzy of sneezes, sniffles, coughs and gasps.

Bertho

Beer, like people, can be reborn.

Cervejaria Colorado’s Bertho, named for the tree that produces Brazil nuts, has been hanging around for a few months, and appears to have aged well. The first time around it was quite sweet, but now the flavors have mellowed into a woody caramel corona bursting forth from an epicenter of effervescent nuttiness.

Those flavors also mask the 8% ABV, although it’s given away by the pleasant post-sip warmth, which also gives the impression of barrel-aging.
